Solution to waste disposal problem
In order to solve the waste disposal problem in Malaysia, the government has to raise the awareness of the local society regarding the waste disposal schemes. Firstly, it is essential that the government promotes the waste disposal schemes such as the waste categorizing program via advertisements on TV, radio and newspapers. Moreover, seminars regarding waste disposal schemes also have to be organized so as to introduce the concept of the 3R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. In addition, it is necessary that the government of Malaysia sets up more recycling centers to collect recyclables such as plastics, glass and paper. In order to encourage the local society to participate in the waste disposal schemes, the government can give incentives to the people. As an example, the Malaysian government can give out coupons or vouchers to the local society for the their participation. In a nutshell, it is imperative that waste disposal is carries out wisely as inappropriate waste disposal planning could result in disastrous environmental consequences.
Wisdom is a more important quality for people in leadership if compared to intelligence
Wisdom is the "acquisition of knowledge and the analysis of the information filtered through emotions" (Hall, 2007, para. 8). On the other hand, intelligence is the amount of knowledge which a person possesses. Both wisdom and intelligence are the prerequisites for people in leadership. Nonetheless, comparing wisdom and intelligence, wisdom is a more important quality for a leader as it is imperative that a leader possesses "the ability to cope in the face of adversity, humility and emotional resiliency" (Hall, 2007, para. 3).
First and foremost, people in leadership have to able to cope in the face of adversity. That is to say that a leader has to be able to remain calm in the midst of crises. Subsequently, a leader has to make the right decisions for the organization and implement a suitable solution. For instance, when the United States of America was hit by hurricane "Katrina", a substantial loss of property and life occurred. Consequently, the leaders of the government remained calm and ordered help to the people of New Orleans. Besides this, Tun Dr Mahathir also portrayed the quality of being able to cope in the face of considerable adversity or uncertainty. During the economic crisis in 1997, the Malaysian economy suffered a drastic drop and it was Tun Dr Mahathir who provided the remedy. In the midst of anxiety, he implemented the policy of pegging Malaysian ringgit to the US dollar at a rate of RM 3.80. As a result, the Malaysian economy was stabilized and continued to expand. Thus, it is essential that a leader to be able to deal with decision making in the midst of crises.
Moreover, it is also vital that a leader to be humble. With a sense of humility, a leader will treat everyone as equal. Hence, his/her subordinates will have great respect for him/her and give him/her the support he/she needs. Furthermore, it is also important that a leader accepts comments and new ideas. For an example, in an organization, the president has to listen to the ideas conceived by his/ her employees so that the organization will have better development. As a conclusion, a leader has to be humble open to new ideas.
Last but not least, it is essential that a leader to have emotional resiliency. This is because a leader has to be able to provide motivation to his/her subordinates. For an example, the ex-captain of Manchester United, Roy Keane is a leader who has emotional resiliency. This is because, even though his team is trailing in a match, he will not give up and always remain in an upbeat mood. In addition, he will give motivation his teammates and make them more inspired. In summary, a leader has to able to provide motivation and inspiration to his/her subordinates so that they have high morale and spirit.
In a nutshell, by comparing wisdom and intelligence, wisdom is a more important quality for people in leadership as a leader has to be able to make good decisions, be humble and emotionally strong.
